The Somacount Series

RAPID AND ACCURATE METHOD FOR COUNTING SOMATIC CELLS IN MILK

Somacount 150
Analyzes up to 150
samples per hour

Somacount 300
Analyzes up to 300 samples per hour

Somacount 500
Analyzes up to 500 samples per hour

Somacount 150
Analysis at 150 samples per hour

This instrument is ideal for labs with small to medium testing requirements. With a working factor below 100, the Somacount 150 is the worlds most accurate instrument available for determining the number of somatic cells in raw dairy milk. The systems offers the same computer flexibility as the larger members of the instrument series, but here we have built a standard computer directly into the instrument. This approach gives the user with an 'out of the box' system, ready to test. This compact instrument tests 150 samples per hour, and is available in two models, semiautomatic and automatic. Can be combined with our Bentley 150 infrared analyzer to form a 150 combination system.

Somacount 300
Analysis at 300 samples per hour

Designed for labs with medium to large testing requirements, this compact instrument tests 300 samples per hour. The grandfather (1991) in the series which has triumphantly travelled across the world, and today has most any approval you can think of. The Somacount 300 is our pride and joy, and is today in routine operations in more than 150 laboratories throughout the world. The system was updated in 1994 and today spots the same operational advancements as the other instruments in the series. It uses a standard personal computer for it's operation. Standard version is automatic.

Somacount 500
Analysis at 300 samples per hour

Designed for the lab who needs the ultimate in rapid sample analysis.

With a comfortable speed of 500 samples per hour it sets the pace for the competition. A unique feature of the Somacount 500 is that it has been designed as one instrument using two individual cytometry modules. This acts as a "fail safe" system for the instrument. Should a problem arise that in the past would have forced an instrument to be shut down for maintenance, the special features of the Somacount 500 allow the operator to shut down only half of the instrument and continue testing samples at a reduced speed of 300 /hour. We introduced the instrument in 1992 and we have never looked back. In combination with the Bentley 2000 it still sets the pace for combination systems. It uses a standard personal computer for it's operation. Only available as automatic.

The Somacount instruments are the foremost in early mastitis detection. The instruments provide a rapid and accurate measure for the SCC (somatic cell count) in dairy milk.

Available in three models, the instruments all utilize a laser based flow cytometry. We introduced this technology in the dairy testing laboratories, and have been the foremost authorities in this field ever since the introduction of the first Somacount 300 in 1991. The instrument line combines today's technology with computer control resulting in far less moving parts, which again resulted in higher reliability and less maintenance. The technology of flow cytometry has proved itself to be more reliable and in general more accurate. The Somacount instrument is the most reliable and cost effective instrument to use for the quantitative determination of somatic cells in dairy milk.

Designed with few moving parts, these flow cytometry instruments use ethidium bromide to stain the DNA in somatic cells. The laser based counting section uses the fluorescence characteristics of the dye to count the cells one by one.
